The hook and ladder truck in this painting is a 1916 American LaFrance Type 33
City Service Ladder. It was operated by the Oyster Bay Fire Co. No. 1 on Long Island, New York. The still life contains a helmet, a harness belt worn by firefighters when working on the aerial, ceremonial bullhorn, fire extinguisher and various hand tools. Across the top
are wooden ladders that have been raised at many a fire.
